I am a young engineer - who is writting her graduate work for the technical university
- and in my work i need to do some calculations (i need to pick up some air conditioning device for an apartment).

Is there any tool which would be helpful for this request..
I am not asking about air conditioning selection programs provided by specific companies :)

Btw - I am new to this portal - so if there is any info here about it - forgive me :)

Greetings

Can you be more specific about what you need?

During my univ curse I had no classes on Air Conditioning,
so I am more like a blind child in a fog. Studying on my own.

Fist of all i need to find an air conditioning device who provides thermal comfort in the apartments (during summer and winter). The device should be installed in an existing flat.

I know the max outside temp., humidity of the air, the heat of the insolation... the cubature of the flat etc. etc. Is there anything else I should know?

Thermal Comfort in the flats is :
-temperature: 22 - 26 C deg
-humidity: 30 - 65 %
-velocity of the air: 0,05 - 0,3 m/s (according to the value of the temp.)

Like Argus, I don't understand what you need specifically.
Do you need AC units, documentation, leaflets, selection help, standards...
Conditions in the flat are.....or should be...
Splits (wall, ceiling, ground..), watercoils, how many flats, outside conditions, which gas, tubing (copper, ABS..)
It's not that simple as it seems sometimes.

I think the young lady may mean, that she has to calculate the heat load on the said apartment and then design an airconditioning device to cool it

Yes.. i need some selection help.. AC units too

Sadly i need to deal with something unknown to me..
so even asking question is a problem :(

My professor asked me to pick up some flat - and select an AC device for it. What data do I need so i can make this work done? What shall i calculate?

I was wondering if there is any online help for such requests.

hi halwaya,

have you noticed how quick all the gentelmen jumped for your help? :)

I never heard of such a learning methode and I frankly think that your proffesor HAVE to give you better and more specific instrutions.

there are many good and very educated people here and even if they will give you the software to calculate the heatload in your appartment,m I dont think you will know how to use it or understand what parameter to fill in.

i would suggest you to explain EXACTLY what you need and I'm sure that in no time, someone will do it for you.

as I said before, ALL of us are gentelmen.

have a lovely day :)

I really do appriciate all the posts,
and I agree you're gentelmen :)

(However i do feel like a blonde ;))

You are right chemi-cool - my knowledge on
air conditioning is rather basic. So far i was
into heat exchangers in some instalations,
and into gas purify devices.
I can complain about our education system
(as i had almost all engineer subjects
including electronic & automathic through civil engineering,
microbiology, ecology, law and economics
- these last 2 are useful anyway).

Once again I appriciate your kindness and your will of helping me.
Thank you

try this link to a free trial program - I'm sure that you can design your cooling load and print the results within the free trial period.
http://www.im-looking-for.com/air_conditioning/air-conditioning-calculations.htm
Once you have the room load it will be easy to select the correct equipment from manufacturers sites

My professor gave me more data after our last consultation.

Outside:
- temperature: 30 C deg
- humidity: 40 %
- pressure 1000 hPa

Inside:
- temperature: 20 C deg
- humidity: 40 % (=const)

- cubature of the room is : V=4 x 5 x 2,5 = 50 m^3
- in the room we have 2 people

My AC device should work in a closed cycle, so it uses inside air to cool it..

Sadly i need to do all the calculations on my own - using some formulas to calculate the heat load
(so for now i will spend more time in a library)
Later i need to pick up some existing AC device so it works there in this room.

Wish me a good luck.

hi halwaya,

here are a few links that can help:

http://www.ba.ars.usda.gov/hb66/012heat.pdf
http://www.heatload.com/unico/heatloadpreform.htm
http://www.xpedio.carrier.com/idc/groups/public/documents/techlit/570-878.pdf

http://www.hvac.cc/

the last one has a free trial, download it and you can do your calculations .

good luck on your project

You will also need the type and thickness of wall material to look up factors and calculate transmission cooling load for the walls. This will be different for windows, of course.

Also, if this is a real application, you had better be sure there is no substantial sun load, such as exposed, south or west-facing walls & windows, for example, or an uninsulated roof.

Good luck,

Rog

hey Rog,
Thanks for your sugestions. I will have to calculate that too plus the heat loads from the lighting system.
I've already found out that there is a lot of fun with these calculations.
Luckly it is not a real application - my professor wants me to learn how to do it ;)

Yo,

you might also consider other internal loads as computers, printers, coffee machines, etc. if you really want to get a "super" accurate calculation !

Hi!

Take a look for CoolPack, from DTU. A "swiss army knife" of refrigeration tools. Free, downloadable from the net.

Thank u so much for ur concern... I am in Johor Bahrau... all i need to learn how to select the TXV, and other components in the AC system such as receiver-dryer, accumulator that mean i am looking for the basic fundemental for selecting theses components and once again i apreciate ur kindness:)
