hi paul the thing picks up the signal through the mains electrics the monika slaves operate at 60 hertz and because the mains electric supply is 50 hertz the monika console picks up the signal at 60 hertz the thing is really simple as there are no networks or hubs or ip adresses.
the probe plugs into the slave the slave is wired into the main live and nuetral in the cabinet and that is it away it goes.
there is a company called gamble food controll who will give you a bit more indepth support if you need it espeically if your having trouble in a iceland store.

The monica uses the neutral to send the cabinet temperature from the salve unit in the cabinet to the master unit the the office. Basically instead of running loads of wires back to the office they use the neutral conductor in the building. As each cabint plugs into the mains anyway there is always a neutral to every cabinet to use. Not a bad idea but can be a pain sometimes when they just disconnect for no apparent reason.
