Hello everyone. In commercial refrigeration (walk-in freezers/coolers), we typically estimate the evaporator TD by dividing condensing unit capacity by evaporator capacity (x10)...

But I would like to know the most accurate way to calculate this TD. Or if not calculation, must I find the saturated suction temp at which evaporator capacity is closest to condensing unit capacity (and then TD is room temp - that SST)?

Thanks in advance for your insights.

What is purpose of that estimation?

Hi nike123. The purpose is to make sure the condensing unit to evaporator capacities are within acceptable range, to ensure correct humidity in the room. So for a storage freezer, a TD of 11 may be fine, but for a flower cooler, a TD of 8 or 9 would be more appropriate. Thanks in advance.

PS: Those examples were in deg F... So the freezer TD was 6.1 deg K and the flower cooler was 4.4-5 deg K.
