Hi, need some help with a copeland 3 head reciprocating compressor. Suspect that one head is leaking through (will not hold a vaccuum when i close suction service and pump down). My question is, how can you tell which head is bad without having to pull all three to find out?

you cant reallly, but if one heads passing it would be worth checking them all out.

Hi nswc take temperature readings of all 3 heads and the one thats leaking will be hotter then rest of them, if not then it might be your interal pressure relief valve when it gets hot the spring gets weak and it normal pressure hold limit is 375psi

Hi, i would inspect the valve plate & reeds first then progress further.

As GHAZ says take temp readings of the heads. However i would check all 3 - could be broken reeds / blown gasket . If reeds are worn then you will need to inspect all 3. Are all heads standard or are there cap control or unloaded start fitted ?

Forgot to ask - is a reed or discus machine. If discus and quite old then you can guarentee that the discharge assemblies are worn. Hope this helps.
