As I stated earlier that I'm Tanzanian from Zanzibar Island. My problem I need help from any one from the site.

Actually I do the refrigeration work at Zanzibar but the main problem that I faced now is low voltages from the supply. This give me hard time to think that if I can continue with this work because it seems so difficult work, because most of compressors do not work properly when low voltages exist.

So I try to advice my customers about to use automatic voltages regulator, but most of them are not well because they burn out after a few time(three hours or one day only). So some people blame me (technicians) about this.

So now I decided to arise this to you so as to get help. So I need to made my own voltages regulator now, but I need help from any one how can I make this even to increase or decrease 10% of the voltages drops.

I'm waiting to hear from you
Thanks very much

Hi Mwinjuma,

I imagine that you are suffering 'brown outs' ...or voltage dips that last!

From what you say about the 'automatic voltage regulators' burning out, I assume that you have over sized the capacity of these for the load you are driving? (To cope with the starting current).

Rather than use electronic units, have you considered an electro - mechanical solution? This is basically an electric motor driving a flywheel driving a generator. Basic and simple, but possibly this is what you need. Don't forget to size the generator to cope with starting currents of the refrigeration system.

If you wanted to go 'hi-tech' , then consider a Variable Speed Drive but connect it to a DC Battery backup supply. This idea would necessitate some specialised electrical engineering - High Voltage DC is dangerous.

I think it is best to keep it simple.

What kind of refrigeration you deal with. I mean what power size.
