I have to remove a 250 ton to send out for overhaul. What exactly is involved with doing this?
I want isolate and pump down the refrigerant r-22 and reclaim the compressor only. Does the compressor just lift off or do I need to seperate the motor end? I got carrier IOM manual that really does not help any.

Unable to trace a manual for that model number.

What type of compressor is it ?

Can you get lifting gear over the lump ?

Its a 23xl2120ec
I can rig it out no problem looking more info about disconnecting motor or leaving it attached? Do i need to pull out all refrigerant or pump down?
Do I need to multiple oil changes and filter dryer replacements since its POE oil in a R-22 system? etc etc.

always best to reclaim the refrig. reclaim it over a filter/dryer or burn-out filter so its possible to re-use it afterwords.
when you put back the compressor you have to charge the plant by given amounts on the frabricage plate.

It cmes out in one piece. Pull the entire charge and weigh it to see if the systemhas lost any refrigerant. By the time you get the compressor back you may find the valves leaked and your system is flat if you leave it in the vessels. JMHO

The 23XL's came in R22. It is not a centrifugal, its a screw. It either has a Howden or an IR compressor on it.
