When the price of copper was through the roof earlier last year, we had people stealing the copper out of condensing units for house a/c units.
There were hundreds of condensing units cut up with a sawzall for the copper-thousand dollars damage for fifty dollars scrap!
They even started cutting copper lines off cooler rooftop units!
Did you get much stealing back home?

There was loads of theft for scrap and not just copper, even went as far as railway power cables, gas pipes, manhole covers and even road signs.

Some of our copper thieves think they are smart, because they go for live power cables.
One of these days we will see them fried :D
