Hi guys,

Hope someone can help. I`ve got two old Toshiba cassettes running on 22, both RAV-43AH8-SE. The indoor unit fan is running but no heating. At the time of visit I couldn`t get to the outdoor units for to long other than check the refrigerant pressure at standstill which is ok. The customer wasn`t bothered as he`s got six more keeping him cosy and he`s on shutdown over Xmas. Being old units the manual with codes in has long gone. Here`s what I found when using the "check" button:
unit 1 "1F8" "1.09" "1.1E"

unit2 "2E2" "2E5" "1.1E"

I know some of the codes equate to number of starts of the compressor

Any info would be more than welcome.

Many thanks and a happy new year to you all.

Glenn

Hi glenn

You need to run the units as you cannot tell if a system is short of gas by standing pressure.

I have some old manuals and 1E refers to low refrigerant.
Hope this helps.

Happy New Year

Hi p_p,
Thanks for the info. I think I`ll weigh the gas out and if low I`ll do a leak test on the pipework. Time to get my climbing gear out.

Happy new year to you too.

Hi Glen
First press of check button is compressor starts
1.09 is no change of temperature at indoor coil.
1.1E is low pressure and usually indicative of an outdoor pcb fail as a pressure switch isnt fitted

Hi Brit,
Thanks very much for the info, I`ll look into that.
Now, all I need is someone who can tell me tomorrow nights lotto numbers!

Hi Glen,

Your model number is wrong and Brit is nearly right.

I think you'll have and RAV-463AH8-PE but double check it.

1st number is a hexadecimal number indicating how many times the compressor has been asked to start.

01.09 is either no change in temp of the indoor coil or that the indoor coil has frozen up.

01.1E is not a low pressure trip (these units did not have an LP switch) this code means that the compressor discharge temperature has exceeded 130°C.

To clear the fault codes press and hold down the check button on the controller for 15seconds.

Then check indoor and outdoor heat exchangers and air filters are clean. Poor air flow through condenser (that's indoor in heat mode) could be an issue.

Check the Td sensor in the outdoor unit (red connector on the board). This is the one that triggers the 1E code. 10°C is 103kohms and 25°C is 50kohms.

Next step would be to verify the gas charge is correct for the given pipe run.

Hope this helps.
