Ok guys, what is your first taughts when you see this picture. Insulation you see behind was covering that bulb and pipe section. Bulb is of TXV !

Please tell me , did it ever run?
I see it with my own eyes but can't believe it!
Just when did the expansion valve control any thing? Must be undercharged or the valve is blocked.
Otherwise it surely would suffer from liquid carryover?

Do you know where the install was Nike?

I would say some cowboy has done this,The bulb would of originally been in contact with the pipework and both the bulb and pipe wrapped in the insulation you see on the bottom of the pipe.the cable tie and flex around the bulb are not factory fitted

Is that a suction slop pot (accumilator) that the thing is clamped to.

It would appear that the bulb is in a rubber case and then the armaflex must have covered it?
If the armaflex covered it completly I spose some thermal conductivity would take place and
any liquid carry over would be dealt with in the slop pot?

Someone went to a lot of trouble to braze copper pipe half-section to the suction line for the bulb, then insulated the bulb from the copper. Amazing, what some folks will do.:D

I suppose since the accumulator always filled up with liquid, they cranked the TXV adjusting stem closed to prevent that from happening.;)

This is what happens when an engineer tells someone who doesn't know what they are doing to "insulate the bulb" :D

These were my taught also, but since day of install (10 years ago) I was responsible for this unit.
I taught that somebody was there and that customer don't telling me that fact. :(
Then I went to other identical unit near by, opened her and found same thing.:confused:
It is factory fitted at that way.;)
This is Fujitu ABY36RGA3W and it seems that that black thing is some heat conductive rubber.:cool:

maybe its a form of thermal damping to slow down the valve action , maybe to stop it snaping shut and sending the compressor out on lp

Could be, but there is no LP (or HP) switch.
Also, cooling cycle is controlled by capillary tube. TEV is only for heating cycle.

I was simply checking if unit works as it should be when I spot this and I was stumped.
Owner complained that unit doesn't heat when outdoor is below 0°C.
I checked capacity at 5°C outdoor and it was as stated at technical manual.
Space, what it heats, is too large and made of glass walls and sheet roof (addition to solid building, bar) and when it is cold enough outdoor temperature, indoor temperature is also low (below 10°C), unit goes constantly to cold air blowing prevention mode. Therefore, owner thinks that unit doesn't work as it should be, even he agree that space conditions (insulation) is not favorable.
He have identical one in basement (100m2), and that one heat perfectly even when outdoor is -7°C, therefore he thinks that this one is faulty.
Originally, when unit is fitted space was about 40m2 and now is more than 70m2.

I had a customer who has 15 slit ac units w/ Tandem compressors the in house guy hung ALL the txv in the return air stream
I was there to do 4 tandems I found it when I saw a 44 deg t/d I told the customer that I had TO CHANG THEM all.
they said no they work great for 10 yr the way the are fun fun fun
so I just change the ones I did 22 deg t/d
