I'm a little confused, at college I'm being tought one set of symbols for an elctical diagram and at work the diagrams have the same symbols but they represent different things. can some body direct me to a universal list or somthing pleeeaase.

(These diagrams were not drawn up by my work they have been left by whoever installed the units)

Simply put there isn't one.
With most sets of drawings you need to seek out the Legend.
This is basically the list explaining what each symbol in the schematics represent.
Wiring diagrams and how they are drawn differs not only from country to country.
But from manufacturer to manufacturer!
Don't confuse wiring diagram schematics with electronics though as they seem to have a more universal approach!
