some 20 years but I'm sure you will find them on old systems run on R12 or R502 that still run today.

used to come in sizes up 7/8 pipes.

I'm getting worried about you Frank :p

I think that when you get to wear shoes without holes in them that you will end in trouble knocking on doors :D

Come on, guys, we can do better than these!!!

Grasso HA VII, 1929~1979. 100.000 kcal/h @ -10C/+25C with ammonia (208.3 m3/h).

In Grasso headquarters. Still runs!

Here's another plant. This one in Nicaragua. Ammonia, two stage. At least 35 years. Still operates with original equipment.
No plans to "update".

Definitely, my #1 and #2 on my Top Ten of oldies:

#1. Frick's Powerhouse equipment (Corliss engines). They were operating before the American Civil War, and they still work! (Frick celebrated 150 years last Sept.).

#2. Frick's steam tractors (all purpose machines: could attach harvesters, sawmills, etc). Still working. Manufactured about 100 years ago.

Still runs!
Hi Manuel.

Doesn't count, its like a museum.

Have to be a part of a running system :D

Its a beautiful machine. There is a place near Leicester UK that have a steam pump about a 100 years old still working fine amd in Scotland I was on a steam boat from first world war, runs fine. The Waverly.

So what is 35 years among friends ;)

Keep sending these pictures.

Ok, I accept the challenge!!! ;)

Here's another one in Nicaragua.

Two piston compressors, ammonia 2-stage. Still working, excellent condition!

-Manuel.

(Got more steam tractors in action, but although they were manufactured by refrigeration companies, they are not refrigeration equipment...)

By the way, these are Frick compressors, too.

Hi Manuel.

You see, once, manufacturers had respect. They built machines to last.

The competition was about quality. Today its only money.

My fridge at home has a Tecumseh small compressor and runs for the past 22 years with no problems.

Now we change the refrigerant every Monday and Thursday.
and everyone get a new one that lasts fortwo or three years ( if you are lucky)

I would imagin that in third world countries, you will find very old machines in perfect running order and just because the same people looking after them all the time and then pass the care to their children. The key word must be - no spare parts.
Every broken part is made by hand with great care and love.

Today you just call your supplier from your mobile while driving, drinking cold coffee and looking at the blond seating in the car next to you at the traffic lights. :D

Well, that is not really true. Believe it or not, in many places in 3rd. world, the trick is not to invest on maintenance!!! If the system was designed and installed properly, and nobody touches it in 25 years, it will mostly keep running (even with the same oil!!!).

Last week I found an screw compressor (slower rotor running at over 7200 rpm) with 77.000 hours with no problems on the roller bearings. Normal bearing life is around 50.000 with no vibration tests. The system was properly set up with the best components and the customer has just touched it as least as possible...
