Hi , i'm a student at college and a question i have been set is what is the difference between the operatin priciples between a 2 pipe and a 3 pipe system , Can anyone help

We had exactly the same question from another student about 6 months ago.




BTW. The answer is:
The 3-pipe unit will provide heat recovery (=simultaneous heating and cooling). Unless you are looking at a Mitsubishi Electric system, they manage to do with 2 pipes what the other manufacturers needs 3 pipes to do.

2 pipes for heat pump (Just Heating or cooling)
3 pipes for heat recovery (cooling with heating)
