It's been on the news down here too, I think joanna lumley has been protesting about unfair treatment of the gurkhas.
My grand-dad came from the UK and fought in asia with the gurkhas in WW2 after he was rudely kicked out of europe in the early stages of the war. edit: ie. After dunkirk he fought in burma.

Lets support ALL the services that fought for us please.

The Gurkas are brave soldiers in their own right of course...But what about our Soldiers - Sailors - Air Force - Special Forces.

My grandfather was a infantry soldier in the Somme.
My father was a sailor in WW2.
My brother was a Marine in Falklands.

Lets never forget.

Hi NH3, the Gurkhas have been a part of the UK armed services for years and years.

See Wiki also...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurkha

They were paid a wage below that of our nationals and come retirement from the army had to go home to Nepal and live on a very small pension. This pension amount does not provide for decent health care etc.

If they wanted to come to the UK live, retire or for medical treatment they would be refused.

To say that our Governments treatment of them is abysmal is to be very polite.

Thanks for your interest.

Brian

"Jai Mahakali, Ayo Gorkhali"

From what I have read so far, it looked like they did get a RAW deal, but it looks like someone is trying to "Make It Right"

I signed up and I also wrote a letter to my MP.
About a week ago I got a reply from him. He was quite understanding and said that it was going to be reviewed. He said that the authorities would look at each case individualy and with a more sympathetic attitude.

Cheers taz.
