With a little bit more than 1 year to go, customers are waking up from their 10-years long sleep and asking for support.
Virgin R22 is ending on 31/12/2009 and no more will be sold in the EU and many other countries of the world.
What's next?
Two big companies (ark*** and dup***) which are in charge of the production of great part of R22 in the world, are now offering drop-in replacement refrigerants, to avoid any fall of their turn-over.
Let's see some of their claims: :D
Ark***: "ForaneŽ R427A (aka FX100) requires one oil draining and its replacement by a POE lubricant".
Wow, so what's the point, then? Can't I just switch to R407c, which is known since the dawn of time and with ample availability of components?
DuP***: "it has been observed [...] that shrinkage of the original seal may occur after conversion, causing refrigerant leakage".
Good. Now, why don't we just avoid R22 leakages and prevent any need to top it up, instead of causing more leakages?
DuP***: "Isceon MO29 will work successfully with the existing mineral oil in most systems".
What about the other system, not included in "most"? And being a marketing flyer, should I read "most" as in "some"?
Basically the morons are selling a compound which is not a drop-in replacement and cause the system to leak more, so more refrigerant is needed to top it up.
Guys, please, do not drop anything in in place of R22. Just repair the leaks before 31/12/2009 and leave them go.
cheers.
p.s. Names are covered to protect the innoc...uhm... me.
p.p.s claims are copied and pasted from the company's flyers available on respective websites.
