Hi All.
Ive emmigrated to Australia from England recently and landed a job for a company who looks after a food process factory in Sydney. Im 2 years qualified as fridge engineer and used to work on small commercial units so this is a culture shock for me.
Anyway amognst other things, I have a responsibility to monitor and maintain 2 Air Dryers. These dryers are used to provide clean dry air at 10c at the process areas where they package the foods.
Once the air has been processed and compressed it is pushed to a holding container where its then fed through a heat exchanger (Shell and tube Evaporator) to obtain a Dew Point of 3c then out it goes. The Shell and Tube water Condensor then absorbs heat and pumps to a cooling tower for heat rejection.
Its the first process I dont have any information on. The Air compressor unit is huge. It takes air from inside the factory through an intake vent on one side of the unit and an air output vent on the other. Its installed inside a rather warm factory room and my process temperatures leaving this unit are 41c not recommended 25-30c. As a result the duty put on the refrigeration side is high (higher pressures) and the water tower cant cope. As a result my process temps are 12-13c.
This system has been working fine for 7 years as is. Ive maintained the filters on the air compressor and running air intake pressures are fine. I would have thought that this system would work better ducting fresh air in to the Air Compressor rather than dirty warm factory air.
Have to put my recommendations in this week for fix so any help would be really appreciated. Feel like im drowning here with all these options.
Many thanks guys. Eric
(if it shouldnt work but it is, back away very quietly)
