Hi

Does anyone know of a simple fairly small (5kW) absorbtion system available in Europe that is driven by Solar heated water. I have looked around and found only complicated units: ROTARTICA YAZAKI etc.

I mean a simple electrolux camper van type fridge running off a heating element or gas flame. Maybe even a few in series etc. I can get approx 90 deg C out of my 8m2 vacum tube sysytem in the summer months in the South of France for approx 8hrs per day (28deg C ambient temp).

Cheers:)

Solar water by 90 degree is not high enough to drive the absorption cooing system.

you could imagine the heating element can reach more than 150 degree. Gas flame can even be higher.

Hi, just a quick response based on my experience with absorption, @90degC you can run an absorption chiller no problem, however the duty of the chiller will be severely diminished, say by 50%, so you need to oversize your machine x 2, say to 10kw nominal, this will give you about 5kw/hr of duty from your chiler, however, you will need to put in say circa 1.3 times the heat compared with the cooling duty derived, say 8kw/hr. This brings us back to your solar collector, it sounds like yours is an unvented system, tghis is much less efficient than a pressurised vacuum tube type system which can achieve very high temperatures, well in excess of 150DegC. unofrtunately 8m2 is not nearly enough surface area to give you the 8kw/hr you need to do this, you need to look at using a high pressure, high efficiency system using special cooling mediums..... now you see why the systems in the market currently are complicated. it is possible, but you will need a lot of engineering skills and financial resources, your collector surface area will also be much larger than you might ordinarily expect for a camper also. ....good idea, but financially restrictive with todays technology.

I can do the maths for you if you decide to give it a go... sorry I cant help any more than that.
