Hi

I have a small property maintenance company in Spain. I recently decided to branch out and supply and install aircon. I had an experienced Spanish engineer and a recently qualified young man to assist. The experienced guy has left part way through an installation. The problem we have is that the aircon trips the switch in the fuse box, sometimes after an hour of working fine and sometimes immediately. We think it could be a problem with earthing. This is a new apartment and the owners are not connected to mains electricity but to the builders electric.

Any suggestions?

Do you mean the a/c is running off a generator?

The problem we have is that the aircon trips the switch in the fuse box,
I would check the ratings for the trip switches, don't assume the fault lies with the a/c unit.

Hi Spanish, Have you checked the power supply is it constant or fluctuating.

Thanks for the advice. We are fairly certain that the A/C unit is fine. We will check as suggested.

Yo Spanisch Guy,

just back from Holiday in Spain, i could help you otherwise.was for 1 hole month.
by tripping,do you mean the fuse in the aircon or supplier ?
you no by now that the electric suppliers are not stable, and the do have fluctuations in Voltage and amps.
ho charged the system? did you not overfill ?? because than the compressor has liquid flow and makes hard to run smoothly.

grtz, Ice

ps;was informing for jobs and stuff over there.

Yo M8,
sorry, mist the first part of tripping, see it is in the main box.
how many users are on that specific line were the aircon is connected to ?? may be they use an hairdryer or microwave and that is just to much for that line.

i rented a home from a Spanish entrepreneur and boy o boy, was he in need for specialists.electrics whit all sort of wires, plumbing ;if its leaks put a bucket underneed and so on.

so , check the lines first.

Ice;)

We have checked all electrical connections. The supply is fairly constant. The tripping occurs when the compressor kicks in.

Spanish Guy,

As Chillin mentioned earlier what is the rating of the Breaker / switch that is tripping.? It should have a letter 'B' or 'C' followed by a number '10','16','20' ?
This is the rating of the MCB.
Does it have a 'TEST' button?

Secondly, what is the type of system...a cheap non-inverter (constant speed) or an inverter with varying speed compressor.
Make and model.?

A cheap constant speed system will have a high starting surge which will be made worse on a poor supply voltage and probably will not work on a generator working near its limit.

did you look if there is a short circuit on the compressor, check the electric fields whit Ampere tool.

keep in mind wen it is a simple split, and its market for 4Amps of use its taken 10 to start for a split second.
see if the circuit breaker has a slow rating for jumping,
class D or so.

I do not know what builders electric is??

But I would check that there are no fluctuations in the supply.

Hi try checking ratings of the system with the fuse size, see how many amps the system is pulling, if it is pulling more than the fuse size there is your problem. I am based in Spain Benijofar if i can help, let me know.
