oil superheat ?

hi guys , can any kind hearted soul explain the purpose of oil superheat for me ( stal comps ) if u can i thank ya

Can't say that I have ever heard of oil superheat, but I have heard the term discharge superheat. Since you are relating this to a screw compressor, I think what you are describing is the superheat in the discharge gas to prevent oil dilution in the separator.

If you take the actual discharge temperature and subtract the saturation temperature (at the discharge pressure) this gives you the discharge superheat.

Since the oil is at the discharge temperature in a screw, the higher oil temperature is above the saturation temperature of the refrigerant.

This prevents the refrigerant from condensing in the oil (oil dilution). If the oil were diluted, the oil viscosity would be reduced which is bad for bearings.
