Hi can you tell me what is the maximum size pipe you can bend for 410?I've herd 1 5/8????

It depend from

What is a 410 pipe?
Material
Hardness.
Bent radius.
Machine aviable

well, i know where i am (in australia) pipe rated for use on R410A systems only comes in soft-drawn (coiled) up to 3/4 in size, whereas normal refrigeration tubing not rated for the higher pressure can be bought in soft-drawn tubing up to 7/8. 7/8" Pipe rated for the higher pressure of R410A can only be bought as hard-drawn.

so i imagine if u dont go higher than 3/4 u will be safe, but possibly with the right bending equipment u will be right.

Its hard drawn pipe and the thicker wall in 3m lengths.I use a hilmoor pipe bender that i have previously bent upto 4 inch ish i remember correctly.Granted it was on R22.

Not long ago i tried bending 1 1/8 and i didn't like the result. All rippled on the inside, gawd only knows how thin the outside was streached too. So assuming you got hold of 1 5/8 bending gear, which i couldn't find by the way, the result would proberbly be much worse.
Play it safe, buy some fittings (and plenty plenty of nitrogen)

Most engineers I know use gear benders up to 1"1/8. I have always wondered what the limits are with 410A, perhaps the pipe manufacturer can advise on this. The rippling effect is annoying and needs to be cut out. I find if you use the bender in reverse it stops the rippling but is difficult to hold the pipe. My latest gear bender sheared the teeth off the handle pin and has really peed me off:mad:

I love bending as it saves masses of time;).

We used to use ratchet benders for 1"3/8 and 1"5/8, but I believe these are expensive and really heavy.

I am also under the impression that soft drawn can only be used upto 5/8" as some manufacturers(eg. Daikin) give this information.

R410 pipe is a thicker wall pipe for use with 400 series refrigerant, it's a requirement in Australia to use this pipe when installing a 400 series system.

R410 pipe comes in soft drawn rolls, pair coil & in 6m hard drawn lengths in a great range of sizes.

On the smaller side of things I think all 1/4 & 3/8 pipes are now R410 rated in Australia.

It's pretty easy to tell the difference between 410 pipe and standard pipe just by looking at the wall thickness.

410 pipe here is just copper coloured steel.
I,ve bent the handles of my 3/4" benders trying to bend 3/4" hard drawn pipe.

I'm with you Martin102. 15/8 is bad enough with a horizontal ratchet bender.

Don't bend any hard drawn for 410A - the inside of the bend compresses, the outside stretches - when it stretches the wall thickness is reduced hence it no longer meets the regs - use fittings - use good quality fittings!

anything larger than 7/8 or 3/4 i would just use elbows..

Don't use elbows, use bends they have a better radius.
