My brother has lived in Nerja, southern Spain for about 5 years.

When his house was being built he said ' what A/C do you recommend?" Well, needless to say, he went for the Daikin 2MX multi split, with FTXS25's serving the Lounge and the Master Bedroom.
The unit has given good service for the past few years but he texted a couple of weeks ago and said that the Lounge wasn't getting down below 27C (lucky bu**er).

So he called out the local Spanish A/C co to have a look.

Here are the temps I asked him to measure
Indoor 1
Lounge - 27C air on, 17C air off

Indoor 2
Bedroom - 26C air on, 18C air off

Outdoor
26C air on, 28C air off.

The local Spanish Guys came and said " it's overcharged as the piperuns are very short" so they proceeded to connect the gauges and blow off some gas. "That's better - now give us a ring if it plays up again"

Yesterdays readings - Outdoor - 30C air on, 33C air off. Lounge 28 C air on, 22C air off.

Diagnosis anyone? :D

The locals aren't very good guessers

would be my first diagnosis.

Then I'd tell them to come back remove the charge and weigh it in..Then if it still isn't right, check to see pressures -maybe the comp is on the way out or the condenser needs a clean..

Frank,

The local crew is obviously slightly under skilled.

Why not get a professional to have a look at it?

Tell your brother that I'm available for a fortnights stay in his villa.

Tell him to close the windows.

If he can't get below 27c with having a 17c air off then I think you are losing some cooling somewhere.

Outdoor unit sitting in the sun?
Cond blocked?

Chillin:):)

Windows - In Spain??? Com'n now - you're havin' a laugh he he.

Apparently the performance has been gradually going down over the past week as I've been asking him to keep me updated on the air temps.

It's obviously short of gas and even more so now that the local crew have been out to input their knowledge :D

The whole point of the post was to let other members realise what level of competence was out there - seems like it's quite low - in some areas - but you need to pay your dues to find this out.
