We are quoting a machine shop, not a grubby back street garage type one but a clean room although not spacelab level.

There are 5 machines which, once set up are left for hours un-manned to get on a do their thing.

Now would this room come under the "where people don't normally go"? or must be be ventilated as per the regs.

Given the rates stated by these regs it amounts to a big VAM...

Do you generally take this into account when quoting for new a.c or think "If they don't mention it , we won't"?

Not sure if this helps or hinders but....

With regard to ventilation we have a site that uses Nuaire fans which are controlled by PIR sensors in the rooms.

With the room empty the fans will fall back into the minimum airflow setting but will instantly run up to full design airflow when the sensors pick up any movement.

Is this something that could be used here?

Brian that system you describe is the Constant Pressure Variable Voulme System by Nuaire - simply its a twinfan with a pressure transducer.

Grilles have a small 3 or 4 stage flap and depending on the setting that flap drops to the commissioned set point and the unit speeds up to maintain the static pressure.(grilles arent connected to twinfan - just works of pressure in d/work thru transducer)

its a great system!

Ventilation of machine rooms is strictly regulated now (EN378-2008)
You're in fact obligated to follow these rules but then your client can think you offer this to gain more money.
Your offer can also be much more expensive compared to others.
What I should do is giving a separate quote for this and referring to this EN378-2008. You state that it is up to client decision to install this additional ventilation.
You warned and informed your client anyhow.
