I've been asked to do some general maintenance on an air conditioning system. The system works fine, just needs a good clean. I've cleaned the evaporator & condensing coils, and now I’m onto cleaning the cassette covers (grilles), which is covered in nicotine stains, which to do a decent job I need to remove. Anyone got any good cleaning equipment they can recommend. I have to illustrate, the nicotine stains are REALLY bad.

Thank You In advance :)

Take off all the plastic parts, soak them in warm water and a lot of soap to soften the dirt, than hand scrub them till they look new.

I completed that stage of cleaning, it's just the nicotine I'm having problem with.

The company i work for used to do some bookmakers, the stains from the smokers were unreal, abit extreme but we stripped down the facia and used oven cleaner then cleaned that off with water, they came out looking as good as new.

Should be the last time you do this being as Smoking is now banned!

Try a can of easy finish from advanced engineering, spray it on and it lifts the nicotine straight away.

Does it work if ya spray it straight down ya throat?

No, but it takes your breath away if you get too close to it:)

We used to service units for Boots the chemist in the centre of london, they were disgusting! scary to think what people are breathing in who live and work there! anyway we used to go in at night strip them down, take them in the loading bay and power wash them with something like jif, it worked a treat on filthy facias

i used to service air con units and i found that using a foam oven cleaner and allowing it to soak for a while was the best way to get rid of any nicotine stains left on the grills .

RTIC......DO NOT....DO NOT...use any harsh or solvent based cleaners of any discription especially oven cleaner.....warm to hot water and dish washing liquid with a sponge and time otherwise you will be buying your customers a new casette grill.....BE CAREFULl..............
