Hi everyone,

i have a question regarding the suction pressure of R22. I am running a 3 ton water cooled reciprocating chiller using r 22.
My suction pressure is around 47 psig while the discharge around 230 psig. This reading has been obtained when i operate the system at ARI standard rating (Tin cond = 29.4 oC and T out eva = 6.7 oC).

Is this suction pressure is ok? i was told by my service technician that the suction pressure is low and he decided to charge in more gas to increase the pressure. Nevertheless, the suction pressure remains. Finally, he concluded that i should chemically flushed my water cooled evaporators.

Is this the right solution? please help as i am new to this field.

Thanking you all in advance. Great website!
Regardss,
jp

Not a good pressure if you want the chiller to last.

It should go over 58 psi if you are near sea level and you don't want to break the HE... unless you have anti freeze protection.

Generally low pressure is caused by low water flow, low inlet water temperature or lack of capacity control.
