We are working on a project to store chemicals. The evap side has to have all the flameproof fittings. Fans is not a problem. We are looking for Drain pan heaters I know those are available. has anyone used such heaters 7 what was the performance?

You need the exact electrical rating for the area and the gas involved. You may not be able to use electric heaters at all and have to go to a warm glycol coil to do the job.

You will need to establish which standard you're going to work to such as ATEX (BASEEFA is no longer valid in the UK) and then find a heater that complies to that standard. As TXiceman states you must identifiy the gas/dust (hazard) type because the heater will need to be restricted to a surface temperature that falls within the classification of that gas/dust or hazard.

I would agree with TXiceman that the best option would be to use hot gas or glycol defrost coil. Much safer and probably a lot cheaper.
