Is SO2 still available as a refrigerant? If so where can you get it? I have a old refrig that i have rebaired and need to recharge it.

No R502 is what it was called and you cannot buy it anymore . Instead you can use a drop in refrigerant like R408A .

If you are asking about SO2 (as in sulphur dioxide) good luck! The use of this for a refrigerant has not been around for almost 60-70 years! I would not know where to tell you to go to find refrigerant quality gas anymore, unless it was a chemical supply house or someone who sells compressed gases.

Now they might have this or be able to obtain it, but I doubt they would sell it to you.

The smell of this stuff is horrendous!! (meaning really bad:D)

You must have an old GE Monitor Top refrigerator...

If you think that Hydrocarbons are dangerous - try this stuff.

It's noxious and toxic and the reason why Thomas Midgely invented CFCs in the first place because fridges running on SO2 were killing people.

A minute leak will clear you premises for a week and think what the lawyers will do....
