i have a chiller with a water flow rate of 42 L/s,the water temp in is 12c and the water temp out is 6c,what is the duty in kw??

I get 42L/s = 554 gal/min (UK) with a ~10.5*F TD
so Q = 554gpm x 500 x10.5/12000 btu/ton = 242 tons or 852 KW

you should be able to do the maths on this one, the only other thing you need is the specific heat of water which should be in KJ/Kg then just multiply it out.

Assuming that it is just water without any glycol, the specific heat of the water would be 4.19kj/kg and the mass would be 1kg/l
With a flow rate of 42kg/s, and a dt (T1 - T2) of 6K, you would get:
Q = mcdt (mass flow x specific heat x temp difference)
Q = 42 x 4.19 x 6
Q = 1055.88kW
