R404a and R414b help please

I'm dont know much about the refridgeration business so ive come here for some guidance. I own an ice cream truck w/ a commercial coldplate freezer. I had it serviced about 3 months ago and they put R414b (hotshot) in the system. Well I had to bring it in again because it leaked out. I know they werent supposed to put any in it, but they quoted me $1500-$2500 to fix the leak. They topped the system off w/ R404 according to the paper work. I told them that wasnt what was in there b4, but they said it was ok. Will the R404a damage my freezers compressor? Whats the difference between the R404a and R414b ?

Iam not familiar with 414b but I found this

I know that R12 has different properties to R404a.

404a @ 0deg C = 6 bar ( 32f = 90psi )
12 @ 0deg C = 3 bar (32f = 45psi)

So the preasures and temps will all be wrong and unless they changed the parts the control settings will be wrong. Aloso the TEV or capilary tube will be speced for the wrong refrigerant unles they changed it.

As for the comp being faulty???
Hard one to call but there is no reason why it should fail so it should be ok..

Hi, I've replaced r12 systems with r409a. Have had great success with this gas, Runs on mineral oil.

409A is a replacement for R12. Not a drop in but is the replacement along with MP39, Hot Shot but runs a high head

Are you sure it wasnt R406a he put in ? still would be bad if it leaks cause its R22 based , I49 is the ozone friendly drop in that wont damage the compressor , the dif between 404a and any R12 replacement would be massive .
have you considered he might have put 404a on the bill to negate any legal implications?

R404A is not compatible with mineral oil so unless the oil in your compressor has been changed to polyester oil then it will not last too long .;)
