A man who suffered a work accident when he fell from a scaffolding walkway has been awarded £25,600 in compensation.

The man was walking along a scaffolding walkway carrying a breeze block when one of the boards on the walkway floor gave way. He fell through the walkway, crushing his left hand between one of the walkway boards and the concrete breeze block he was carrying.

The right length boards had not been used on the walkway — those that being used were three feet shorter, causing the walkway to fail.

The construction industry is a mine field.
How many people would have walked across that board before it failed?

It just shows you have to be on your gaurd all the time and Health & Safety is a real, very real challenge that we all must step up to.

I have been very lucky and have never had a serious injury but every time I climbed onto some racking or used a stool to gain access to heights, carried out a quick braze without all the safety precautions in place. I have pushed my luck on occasions and it is scary what the consequences could of been.

H&S is not a joke but somtimes I feel we do treat it as one.

Cheers taz.
