Hi,

I am currently looking at various options to supply electricity, desalinated water and district cooling to buildings with gas as the primary fuel. One of the options is to generate electricity and use waste heat for desal (which is BaU) and to use vapour compression chillers direct driven by either steam or gas turbines. We have seen steam-driven VC chillers at a facility in Japan, so know that they are used for district cooling.

Does anyone have any practical experience with direct driven chillers? In particular, we are interested in the conversion efficiencies of gas or steam turbines in the order of 6MW in capacity.

Thanks

Hi James

I have seen YORK equipment driven by alternative primary supplies such as steam, but have no direct knowledge myself.

Speak with the big chiller manufacturers they should be able to assist you further.

How much capacity are we talking about and how hot water/steam will be there?
