Haven't seen much about Sulphur Dioxide on RE. Have any of you guys out there had any experiences with it?
My one and only experience was as an apprentice. I assisted de-commisioning an open drive system - in a butchers on the Edgware Road in London if memory serves.
My supervisor had me hold a pipe in a bucket of water as he let the gas go. Stank to high heaven. Guess where the now acid went? Yep down the drain in the street - cleaned it up a treat.

OOPs. Seems there are a few posts on this subject after all. 2005 vintage. Hey Ho.

My only experience with SO2 was many years ago when making a smokehouse from an old refrigerator that belonged to my Father.
I cut the lines with an axe. The escaping gas killed his strayberrys.

GUYS!
It must be something to do with age??
NH3LVR.
That must of been an early attempt at "Freeze Drying".

Mind you cutting the lines with an axe. And I thought you Americans had all the tools.

Greengrocer.
Nowadays there are companies that charge a fortune to flush a Condesor sump with Bleach!
I can't refer to releases of So2 but NH3 that's a differant story.

Use So2 anyware and H&S Brigade would have a field day.

Perhaps someone else can clarify this ?
But I think that it was banned a long time ago.

Certainly most of the plants that I have worked on.
That were sO2 date back to the second world war (usually food supplies for the "visiting" American troops).

Has anyone tried to get Sulphur Sticks recently?

I got a sulphure dioxid fridge sitting out side my place. No one wants to touch it and we don't know what to do with it!

We're trying to pawn it off to the museum, let them deal with it lol, it is history after all!

Not lately, but I usually ask for them from the ammonia supplier.

The darn sticks smell worse than the lovely ammonia.:D

Being considerably younger than you:o
I have only come into contact with on one or two occasions, but I do remember all the dial thermomiters and thermostats that had it in the philes. When you boke them it smelled and made you smell just adorable:D:D
