I had a call out this afternoon, bms alarm due to high temp before i go any further let me make it clear that im not familier with chillers, chiller found tripping on hp,reset the the hp switch then it goes to compressor over temp,circuit1 running at 300psi doesn seem right as it goes straight to hp as soon all 5 compressors start running, circuit 2 hp running at what i would call normal 210psi,reset the hp but this keeps happening evry weekend which is good for me make money but i really want know why this keeps happening and cant it reset itself, cos all i have to is acknowledge the alarm on the bms and reset the hp switch,Another question is does it matter which sequence compressors start whether its A or B...Chiller1 has the flow temp of 16.5 dec and return temp of 14.dec

I would appreciate your help.

What is chiller type air-water or water-water. Check flows of air/water (pumps, fans, filers, water pressure).
What is refrigerant in chiller and is it been recent topping up?
Do you have EEV-s ?

Hi mfakazi.

Don't panic!
Go back to basics, the first question to ask is what is causing system 1 to trip on hp.

Most likely cause is the condenser fans are not coming on. Or if it is not air cooled but water cooled.

Has the Condenser cooling water stopped flowing.
IE has the circulating pump failed?
I am not familiar with this particular model hence the basic questions!

But never-less these are the sort of causes you need to eliminate.
So to recap!

If the discharge pressure / temp is actually reaching cut-out ? And it's not a faulty sensor or trip.

Why is the discharge reaching such a level?
What cools it and is it working.

If everything is working as it should but still discharge rises!
Then it is likely the compressor which is at fault..
With it's discharge valves being the most likely cause!

So take a deep breath and start again from the basics.
I hope this post has been of help?

Nike123, thank you very much for the reply...Its R22 water cooled did check the inlet and outlet water flow temp@35 dec...about the recent top up not really sure as i dont have any history of the system..thank you once again no eev's.

Grizzly..yes I agree with you going basics would have made life easier..I think I have not applied the bacic process of elimination..I really found your reply very usefull you have basically put me in a situation where i can break it down and come up with the cause.

Last question do you know any company that specialise on chillers in essex?

What is condenser water in and water out temperature on circuit 1?

woh nike..honestly pass..did look for it on the bms but cant remember..what would be the normal temp anyway?

Yes I do. I have actually worked in the Colchester area for my company. ( I was on temp lone they were short of "Stinkies")
But I am not going to promote anyone, because I don't believe we are here to do that.
Suffice to say any of the big boys do... Carrier, York , Trane.
Plus I would be surprised if there are not some Independents also around your area.
Try googleing the O.E.M.
Good Luck Grizzly

4-8°C water temperature rise if there is no water regulating valve.
If it is water regulating valve fitted, then water out temperature should be around 45-55°C depending on adjustment of valve.
Sometimes, when valve is present, it could be lime scale buildup at valve, who you could wash up by manually opening valve with screwdriver.

Sounds like a lack of condenser water flow or heat transfer. For control, operation and troubleshooting go HERE:
