Suggest you contact mycom especially if compressor is new.My experience with mycoms is they like suniso oil 3GS,4GS and 4SA for ammonia. On a compound,i would assume you need oil for ultra low temp application.Mobil 226E or similar OK,you may expect 'O' Ring shrinkage on seal as with most synthetics. What oil are you using at the moment and type of refigerant/conditions?

Your manuals on the Mycom should have a recommended oils list included.

Hi TXiceman,

i tried before searching thru their screw as well as recip manual. failure awaits me always. I think only recip manual mentions something on this but still not conclusive.

but, many oil suppliers have claims on approval from some mycom offices on the compatibility.

i suggest talking to these suppliers would be better.

anyway, i only use the manual in servicing.
Oil & its application, i talk to professional parties.

Cheerio ...

Hendry, on wesak day holiday.

try mobil SHC 226 synthetic ( MOBIL GARGOYLE SHC 226 Refrigeration Oil )
Best option FMC Foodtech 688 synthetic. Both Mycom approved and good for -60 'C evap; at compressor and lower.
Send commission check in mail. [joke ]

forgot to add in earlier post that Mycom will recommend change of shaft seal o/ring material compound as well,if using sythetic oil, your Mycom supplier should know that and advised you already. Stops leaking during operation due to oil / ammonia/ heat vacuum thing, Alignment on coupling is highly critical, recommend laser alignment, maximum total at mis-alignment less than 0.003, any measurment, radial . height , face to face, any which way. Mycom supply that sevice internationally.
hope this all helps.

magoo again. After having read all previous posts. For R22 use mobil SHC 426 sythetic, stops oil carry-over, has lower flocking value and suitible for all earier reasons. Oil carry will create reduced system performance and call back to site.

Many thanks for all answers. Now we use SHELL AB 32. Not have any problem with that oil. Normal evap temperature -35. Lower evap temperature not used.

RECOMMENDED OIL
The following lubricants are recommend for use with MYCOM W series reciprocating compressors on refrigeration duty.
The customer should be advised that various mineral oils are refined from different base stocks and may contain
additives which are not compatible with a similar oil from another supplier, and that synthetic lubricants from different
suppliers may have different chemical constituents. Therefore, it is recommended that lubricants from different suppliers,
or of different types not be mixed, and that if the type or supplier of a lubricant is changed, the complete system charge
of lubricant should be replaced.
It should also be noted that the following listing of lubricants is not complete, and that inclusion or exclusion of a
specific product does not imply acceptance or rejection of that product. For specific lubricants not listed, contact MYCOM.
In the last two years Mycom Canada has conducted number of researches on available oil for Mycom W series
compressors. Canada has very special oil market where Hydro treated paraffinic oil is as popular as mineral/synthetic
oils. MYCOM W series compressor standard O-ring material is Buna-N on all NH3 compressors. Users must be aware of
compatibility of O-ring materials and followings are our recommended oil for long life operation of the compressors.

Problem on use of hydro-treated paraffinic oil for NH3 application
Buna-N must not be used on mechanical seal. Buna-N material will become hardened and shrink in volume,
which then causes premature seal leakage.
Newly developed O-rings for mechanical seals
Mycom Canada has developed the O-rings with Highly Saturated Nitril (HSN) material. These O-rings seems to
work on both mineral/synthetic and hydro-treated paraffinic oils for NH3 application.
Mycom Canada now sells these O-rings as its standard replacement parts. Color is red and they are available at
both Vancouver and Toronto warehouse

Best thing to do is contact your local Mayekawa Office, give them serial number of compressor, running conditions and ask for a oil recommendation.

Selecting a correct oil depends a lot on running conditions and refrig used.

I know situations of R22 units switched to Nh3 without changing the oil or gaskets, ... and then they ask why the compressor broke down, or is leaking ... I even had a large chemical plant putting hydraulic oil in the system. :) Resulting in a broken N2520 compound compressor.

The list provided by ICEMAN is an extensive list but is only for Reciprocating compressors. You need to contact Mycom directly for approved oil for the screw compressor. Please provide Oil type currently being used, the SCT and SST for the compressor and of course the refrigerant.
thank you.
