Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to use a heat pump to drive a turbine, either by steam generation or using the refrigerant directly?

Where I'm going with my thoughts is multiplying the output of wind turbines. The wind turbine itself driving the compressor, energy being collected from surrounding water and/or air and the waste heat from the generator, but obviously need a way to get the potential energy in the gas back to turning.

Probably a stupid idea :D

Possibly, every piece of equipment that you tag onto the main power generator takes energy out of the system.
