I am looking for a decent variable speed compressor that will run on Butane. Reliability and efficiency are more important than price, anyone got any suggestions or units to avoid?

I asked this in Commercial but it was buried in another post, I suspect no one noticed.

What sort of duty are you looking for ?

Have you tried any of the compressor manufacturer's yet, to save us offering something you have already discarded.

Isobutane is R600a. What capacity are you looking at.

Thanks for looking at this

I am looking at the Danfoss model TLV6K, according to some very rough calculations this would be well suited size wise, though I am waiting on some more information on sizing variable speed comps, it seems a little more arcane than usual. To give you some idea this is the EN capacity table in Watts:

rpm \ °C -35 -30 -25 -23.3 -20 -15 -10 -5 0
2,000 23.8 33.8 46.0 50.8 60.9 78.9 100 126 155
2,500 29.1 41.7 56.9 62.7 75.2 97.2 123 154 190
3,000 34.0 49.0 67.0 74.0 88.8 115 146 182 224
4,000 42.5 61.7 84.9 93.9 113 147 187 234 288

I don't think that you can go far wrong with a Danfoss compressor.

If you consider how many similar units are out in the world running refrigerators and freezers.

I assume that you have the following specification/data sheets from Danfoss....

Thanks for the PDF Brian, I didn't have that one. There are quite a few Danfoss info sheets!

I don't like the way the internal electronics deal with the speed control. I think it would be better if they were linked to internal air temperature, with the RPM cycling up at higher temps, and down as the selected temp was reached, thus keeping pulldown times to a minimum and the comp running at high COP for longer.

Has anyone had experience of Danfoss variable speed units?
