I cant figure out where to post this question, whether here or in hobbies and interests.

My better half has just started doing these for S&Gs but i have noticed it takes so long for her to build these custom templates.

I know some of the RE memebers here have there own websites, and my question is to them How many actual members here design there own custom?

If members here that do design there own what programs would you may offer for user friendly and quickly producing a template aside from say microsoft front page?

I must admit that I'm cheating, my host have a program called "site builder" available for free.
That will let you take standard templates and modify them to suit your needs.
And as that was so simple, I couldn't be bothered to even look in to other options.

Thanks Viking,
I hear alot of people do this. I have not found or seen any templates I like so therefore im stuck with custom web design.

By the way your site looks great for cheating;)

I am under the impression Front Page has a lot of security problems. Hackers have found ways to use this program in viruses to spread problems.

With my limited background in this I simply used a professional designer for my site. With so many different types of programs to use and worrying about how the spiders search the site there are a lot of details to work with.

Viking is right. The hosting company usually has these programs you can use to quickly develop a site and get it loaded, so you might see what is available before you spend any money.

I use Dreamweaver for all the sites I do.

I did mine on notepad like a chump, and it probably shows :(
I did study comp sci at uni for two years before giving up and going back to refrigeration, and I was bored one day, so I put one up.
I need a designer though, need decent quality images too. I completely forgot that I needed to take some good photos before I quit working, oh well.

Hi, all :)

I do not have a site....even been in touch with computers since 1982.....

....my son is IT engineer and he used to make a web design for clients (sometimes pushing me to make my own:eek:), but he use to work with some other specialist in IT structure....he told me, to make a good web page it is a team work...

....safety is another very important question (some years ago, we have been hacked by some good Russian hackers-leaving only a signature...."we were here"), but malicious can harm very much....cause a big problem to you and to your clients....not a joke at all:eek:

I'm not against DIY web pages....but at least ask for some professional suggestion about security on the web....design and outlook you can improve at anytime:D

Best regards, Josip :)

Josip - Iceman,

That sounds like good advice, last thing I want is hacking through secuirty loop hole

Does security and the hack potentioals still remain the same if you custom build template and load up through, a reputaable webhost, that has good tight security.

WebRam,
Dreamweaver S/W how many versions are out there of that, and what version do you reccomemnd?

Thanks Regards a-Z

The hosting firm can help with some of these issues. In the host control panel for your account there should be some security protections you can simply turn for hot linking and other less than desirable actions.

If the hackers don't disrupt your site they will try to steal bandwidth from you by linking somehow through your site.

It is very frustrating to say the least.

I think if you secure, in the control panel with 10 digit PW to protect all directorys you should not have too much of a problem, I think if you set up with allowed full FTP anonymouse this may cause some issue as directorie could be edited, corupted or hacked, and or bandwidth being pirated.

Am i possibly overlooking any other securetiy loops?

I may presume most set up through a secured file transfer protocol (SFTP) vs file transfer protocol (FTP).

This is when you renew your links and place porn links to the old ones.
The linkers will soon get a fright...lol
