View Full Version : Hydrocarbon Refrigerant Training
When you did your C&G 2078 did you cover the safe handling of hydrocarbons?
Were there questions on hydrocarbons on the assessment?
Tony
if HC's are not being covered in the delivery or questioning then the assessor is not doing the course and assessment to C&G standards. If you would like I can send you the training materials we use to look at.

Hydrocarbons were covered during the training and questions were asked during the assessment when I did my safe handling course
Pooh,

I totally agree with you Ian, but there are obviously training centres / trainers / assessors out there who are breaking the rules.
Because we as a CITB and C&G centre are regularly being asked for training on HCs. When we talk to the engineers and ask them if they have done their safe handling, they reply - yes, of course.
Then we point out to them that if they have done either CITB Safe Handling of Refrigerants or C&G 2078 (01), then they should have covered HCs both in the training and assessment, then they are very surprised.
So the whole point of this pole is to try and find out just how many engineers did cover HCs on safe handling courses / assessments.
If you would like I can send you the training materials we use to look at.
Thanks for the offer Ian, but I already have a set of your notes, even if they are not the most recent ones.
Tony
no probs, I agree totally that there are people out there doing a less than perfect job of training and assessing refrigerant handling qualifications, and most of us know who they are. Realistically would you want to spend more than 20 minutes in a tiny caravan, it amazes me that some people are surprised when I say the assessment takes on average two hours they think that is the length of the whole course.

Eh!! ok then????
Not too sure where your coming from Geof.
Tony the CITB & C&G more or less are identical
There are a few subtle differences in the way they are assessed but they do cover the same things.
The C&G gas handle 2077 was suppercided by the 2078 because of the introduction of HC's.
So if the assessment is done correctly then HC's are covered.
I think people who do not work with the stuff tend to get a bit excited when HC's are mentioned, it's almost as though it is some secret that not many are supposed to know about.
In reality HC's are as safe as any other refrigerant if they are used correctly. To make out the stuff is extra special is of no use whatsoever to the industry and is scaremungering in my opinion.

Does that materials in electronic form. If they are, I would like to see them, even I don't need here (in my country) to comply with these regulations you talk about. I am just curious about content of these standards.
So, if that is not inconvenience to you, could you please, send me these training materials.
My e-mail is on V-card at my profile page.
