Hi Guys Happy new year first of all :D

A friend of mine has just had a conservatory built which is 18 square meters. He has asked me for a price for a wall mounted split unit. He doesn't want really cheap kit but thn again he doesn't want to pay the earth for it.
I worked out that he would need 5-6kw based on 330w per meter squared. I rang Daikin and got a quote of £850 for their FTXS60, i then rang Fujitsu and got a quote for a Fujitsu plasma 5.2 Kw and got a quote for £740.
Can anyone recommend a good system that i could get for around the £600 mark?

hi marc
you said 18 square meter from did you get the formula every square meter needs 650 btu per sq meter thats mean 11200 btu plus heat load everyperson needs 660 btu sitting 1000 btu working every watt of lighting 3.4 btu than you can convert 1 kw=3411btu
sharp is a good ac and problem free
good luck

I would put a 7 kw in so you can get enough heat out of it in the winter.

Stay with Fujitsu, they are reliable and good value for money.

I would say fujitsu as well. Up there with daikin for quality, but they run slightly cheaper. They may be more expensive than other brands, but they tend to last alot longer (in my personal experience anyway).

Mitsubishi Heavy SRK63ZE is a good unit. rated at 6.3 kw and comes in cheaper than both Daikin & Fujitsu.

how do you size up for a split system
Hi simond - and welcome to the forum. I see that you are an apprentice - is that in refrigeration?

To size up for a split system (assuming that it's for air conditioning) and you want it for a cooling application, you have to calculate the total heat gain into the space to be cooled. This can include:
Fabric gains
Ventilation gains
Infiltration gains
Lighting gains
Occupancy gains
Equipment gains
Your location in the world can affect these calcs. The time of day that you intend to use the equipment can also affect the size of system you need, i.e. if you want it to cool your conservatory during the day or if you only want it to cool an office in the middle of the night for a night worker.
If you want a split system primarily for heating then you have to calculate the total heat losses to the space you want to heat.
It's quite a complex task, which is why I suppose, most 'engineers' guess ;)
