No, you are not being daft.
It used to work OK, but a number of us have the same problem and the guv'nor is aware of it.
It sometimes helps to double-click the back button.
If you click the small black arrow beside the forward button it displays your page history and sometimes displays Google ads that may slow things down - but it's an alternative method of page navigation that may help you.
.
Same problem here, thought it was just me.

I presume that you guys are using IE?
Not sure if the problem applies to other browsers as well.
The back / forward facility seems to have packed up completely in RE, but works on other sites.
I'll remind the guv'nor....

The screen refreshers quicker if you use the New Posts button instead of the Back button.

I bought a laptop recently that had vista on it an IE7, I couldn't browse this site due to constant errors. Like clicking a thread went through two google ad pages, then the thread, so pressing 'back' on the browser just gave errors as it was trying to load the google ad pages.
Using "opera" browser and no problems now, so it looks like a probelm with how I.E. deals with the google ads.
